Three animal-themed calendars
When ink manufacturers, print companies, print finishers, creative partners and a paper manufacturer work together in the times we live in, it can only mean very good things for our world. Even better if it is also to the benefit of vital issues such as protection of the environment and its precious species. The three calendars, that are produced in high quality on Sappi Algro Design solid bleached board, offer highlight motifs shot by photographers in locations all over the world.
Coasts & Seas 2021 from ACTEGA
A puffin poses nonchalantly in front of Skellig Michael, savouring the Irish sunset. This is the front cover of the Coasts & Seas calendar from ACTEGA, a manufacturer of printing inks and special coatings. The puffin, known as the ‘clown of the seas’, is accompanied in the calendar by gannets, compass jellyfish, spider crabs, leaping dolphins and spectacular coastal landscapes throughout the months of the year. For the first time in the complex production process, not only coatings from ACTEGA Terra GmbH were used, but also from the overprint coating specialist ACTEGA Schmid Rhyner AG.
In this way, the interaction of the different finishes on the calendar pages also represents the cooperation that came about at the beginning of 2020 within the ALTANA parent company. The effects however, are what matter most, of course. These are achieved through techniques such as a water-based drip-off system, glossy and soft-touch combinations, UV gloss effects, as well as haptic and even microstructure effects. The Coast & Seas calendar is printed on Algro Design Card with a grammage of 235 g/m² and Algro Design Duo with a grammage of 500 g/m².
Vibrant colours and serving the animal world – J+S and Gräfe Druckveredelung
This year’s Jänecke+Schneemann calendar features the high presentation quality of J+S printing inks as well as a range of premium finishes from GRÄFE. Just like in the calendars from recent years, the fascinating animal world leaps to the fore, thanks to the impressive effects. The animals on show include a macaw embossed by transfer printing on the cover (on Algro Design 270 g/m²), a slender-spined porcupine fish blind-embossed in several stages and partially finished in a UV gloss and a hermit crab with a partially textured finish. A particular highlight is the British bulldog in a partial UV gloss finish and soft touch finish, which peeks out from beneath the laundry in the month of August.
Radiant printing inks, vibrant coatings and a wide array of print finishes set off each animal in exceptional style. A masterful printing performance, for which Algro Design from Sappi offers the perfect stage.
Mondberge species conservation calendar 2021
The large-size 2021 species conservation calendar was developed for the tenth time for the Mondberge charity project by Contravis GmbH in cooperation with a print partner. All proceeds from the calendar go to species conservation projects. The accompanying pieces of text were written by household names such as actor Hannes Jänicke, who has a deep personal interest in the calendar. Naturally, this calendar is also first and foremost about the visually stunning motifs of endangered species from all over the world, which were conjured up on the substrate via BlueGreenPrint – a sustainable and environmentally friendly printing process.
Algro Design Duo 250 g/m² solid bleached board was used here, offering both a high quality and sustainable substrate to work on. Partial relief and textured coatings were used for finishing. The leaves, which are firmly attached to a sustainable fixture made of bamboo, can be removed by means of a perforation, so they can be framed and hung up individually, for example.
What makes Sappi Algro Design the perfect calendar substrate
Quite simply, the solid bleached board provides the optimal basis for complex motifs, strong contrasts and a wide range of print and finishing types. In addition to offering outstanding visual results, Sappi’s Algro Design also fully supports the issues which these three calendars strive to raise awareness of. For example, the premium solid bleached boards made from renewable resources meet all requirements for sustainability and recyclability, in perfect keeping with the spirit of the times. For example, the fully recyclable premium solid bleached boards, made from renewable resources, are produced by an organisation that carries the principles of a sustainably driven circular economy at the heart of all of its activities, in perfect keeping with the spirit of the times.
